Safety committee will reconvene in September
The All Of Us Community Safety Committee exists to redefine what safety means—centering care, dignity, and community power. We believe safety is not something granted by institutions, but something we create with and for each other.
This committee brings together community members, youth, elders, and systems-impacted individuals to build a future where all communities are safe communities for all residents.
We meet the First Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm to organize, learn, and take action to prevent and respond to violence in all its forms—interpersonal, systemic, and structural. Our work addresses the root causes of harm, such as poverty, trauma, and disconnection, while actively building community-based responses grounded in healing and accountability.
Open to all who are ready to reimagine safety and build collective solutions.
Meetings are hybrid with in-person being in Schenectady and online access requires registration.
The Community Safety Committee is also the home of the Community Accountability Team, which focuses on being visibly present in public decision-making spaces—including city council meetings, school board sessions, and court proceedings. Their presence ensures transparency, public witness, and advocacy that centers community voices and needs.
Together, these efforts support the development of the Community Conflict Resolution Unit (CRU)—a people-powered body designed to address conflict, harm, and crisis without relying on police or punishment. CRU facilitates restorative and transformative practices that support healing, rebuild trust, and uphold the dignity of everyone involved.
